High Surf Advisory
Issued: 6:03 AM PST Jan. 18, 2019 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 9 PM PST this
evening...

* surf... breaking waves of 6 to 10 feet tonight with local sets to
12 feet are expected on west facing beaches through this
evening.

* Tides and potential for coastal flooding... high tides at 6.5
feet at 7 am this morning will coincide with the high surf.
Minor coastal flooding is possible.

* Impacts... there is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip
currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large
breaking waves can cause injury... wash people off beaches and
rocks... and capsize small boats near shore. Minor coastal
flooding is possible over the beaches. No significant damage
is expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught
in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the
current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If
unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
